Remapping Europe

Workshop an der Haute Ecole des Beaux Arts du Rhin
November 2017

Im Rahmen des Seminars „Europe ?!“ und der Exkursion nach Strassburg leitete ich gemeinsam mit Prof. Jérôme Saint-Loubert Bié einen interdisziplinären Workshop zum Thema „Mapping“.

Mapmaking helps us to understand the world around us. But maps need not to show only continents, borders and oceans: we can use maps to display a wider range of aspects. E.g. maps of languages, maps of political parties, maps of religions … and than we can use a map to display personal aspects, like places we have been to or places where our friends live or moods we have in certain places.

In this workshop we will use the medium of map to display our personal approaches to Europe. What does Europe mean to each of us? Which aspects should be displayed in a personal map? How would an ideal map of Europe, ignoring borders, controls etc. look like? Students will be grouped in teams of 2 or 3 to work together on the projects. Possible outcomes: printed maps, atlas, installations, video-maps, digital/interactive maps.
